The development trend of flexible production line has two aspects: on the one hand, it is combined with computer-aided design (CAD) and aided manufacturing system (AMS). Different modules are designed by using typical process data of original product series to form various modular flexible systems with material flow and information flow.
On the other hand, it is a computer integrated manufacturing system to realize the automation of the whole production process from product decision-making, product design, production to sales, especially the management level automation. In this large system, flexible production line is only one part of it.

The ultimate goal of lean production mode is to make the fastest response to the market demand with the best quality, the lowest cost and the highest efficiency, so as to meet the requirements of customers to the maximum extent. Through the grasp of each link in the production process, we should try our best to put an end to all waste, get rid of all useless things, and simplify all work that does not produce added value in product development and design, production and management, so as to reduce the cost apportioned to each product and meet the price requirements of customers.
Flexible production line is a complex and highly automated system. It combines microelectronics, computer and system engineering technologies organically, and solves the contradiction between high automation and high flexibility in mechanical manufacturing. The specific advantages are as follows.
1. High equipment utilization rate: after a group of machine tools are incorporated into the flexible production line, the output is several times higher than that of this group of machine tools in the decentralized single machine operation.
2. Work in process decreased by about 80%.
3. The production capacity is relatively stable: the automatic processing system is composed of one or more machine tools. In case of failure, it has the ability of degrading operation, and the material conveying system has the ability to bypass the faulty machine tool by itself.
4. High product quality: parts in the process of processing, loading and unloading completed at one time, high processing accuracy, stable processing form.
5. Flexible operation: the inspection, card loading and maintenance of some flexible production lines can be completed in the first shift, while the second and third shifts can be operated normally without any care. In an ideal flexible production line, its monitoring system can also deal with unexpected problems such as tool wear and replacement, blockage and dredging of logistics.
6. The product has high strain capacity: the cutter, fixture and material transportation device are adjustable, and the system plane layout is reasonable, which is convenient to increase or decrease equipment and meet the market demand.
